I've always wanted to visit the beautiful northeastern US coast, and fall is the most popular season for a reason. Summers in the upper right are incredibly humid, and fall brings around the most beautiful and colorful foliage of the year. Alex (husband)'s Alma mater is in New Haven, CT, and after much claim that the pizza and seafood on the east side is superior, we finally booked a trip!

We are going on quite the mini road trip, doing a full counterclockwise loop from NJ to NY with multiple states in between! We decided on a healthy balance of husband&wife travel time, visiting family, and meeting up with some of Alex's old college buddies - a little bit of everything!

We are officially back home in Washington as of last night!

On our trip we stayed in:

  • Dublin

  • Donegal

  • Galway

  • Dingle

  • Cork

  • Kilkenny

We did tourist things at:

  • The Guiness St James' Gate Storehouse

  • Trinity College, Library, Book of Kells

  • Glenveagh Castle

  • The Fairy Bridges

  • The Cliffs of Moher

  • Galway's Latin Quarter

  • Blarney Castle

  • Kilkenny Castle

We sightseed at:

  • Wild Atlantic Way scenic drive along the western and southern coast

  • The central countryside between Dublin and Donegal

  • The Wicklow Mountains

We ate and drank at:

Too many places and also not enough

Miles that Andrea drove in a tiny car on the left side of the road:

Approximately 1500 km!! (Around 930 miles).

She drove almost the entire country in a counterclockwise loop. Amazing

What was your favorite city that you stayed at on this trip?

Andrea: "Dingle!"
Monica: "Also Dingle, cutest town I've ever seen".

What was your favorite memory of the trip?

Andrea: "My favorite memory was singing and dancing with everyone at Oliver St John Gogarty Pub in Dublin!"
Monica: "My favorite memories were meeting other locals and travelers at the different pubs and singing along to all the live music. I also really enjoyed being able to see the Trinity Library, which was a location on my bucket list".

What was your least favorite part of the trip?

Andrea: "I'd have to say Cork. The city just felt impersonal" (would skip next time).
Monica: "I'd say the hostel in Cork, and probably us both getting a cold midway through the trip" (Sigh).

What advice would you give someone who is getting ready to travel to Ireland?

Andrea: "As scary as it seems to drive there, it's worth it to be able to see as much as we did. You just can't see Ireland the same way by train."
Monica: "Same about the car, also it's hard to get any sort of medications here so make sure to bring some since apparently you NEVER KNOW".

Thanks for following along with us! See you soon!
